Sourdough Bread Making During Covid-19

July 12, 2020 1 min read

Like many of us I am trying my hand at sourdough bread.
Sourdough bagels

During the Covid-19 lock down earlier this year many of us experienced no toilet paper, no bread, no disinfectant wipes and no pasta on the shelves. 2020 has been a tough year so far. I have made goat milk cheese, butter and of course our body care products but sourdough is a first for me. I remember in the 90's everyone trying to give away Amish friendship bread. I though "oh no not for me. It's too much work". Turns out this pandemic has taught me it's not too much work. It's pretty easy actually and I get to make delicious breads and this morning - bagels!

I made cheese, plain and everything bagels. The everything seasoning from Aldi's is fantastic. If you haven't tried it you should. I started my sourdough starter with regular white flour. It worked just fine. I searched all over for rye flour as a starter because I read it's a good one to start with but no luck finding it any stores around the Columbus, Ohio area. So If you can't find flour that a recipe recommends don't worry plain regular flour works just fine.

What has inspired you this year to try?

I know we have done many craft projects with the grandkids and cleaing out closets. I have also been doing bible studies with women from church. It's been a great time to get closer to God and see what all we can do from home.
